Practicum Access-Multisensory Math 1

A Multisensory Math Course for helping all learners succeed in mathematics.

The Multisensory Math Course was designed to combine multisensory strategies with best practices in math instruction. Evidence based strategies in math based on neuroscience are appearing almost every day now. We look at how the brain processes math and evidence of a core deficit which impacts many students. This course is designed to implement the best instructional strategies for all student but which are especially helpful for students who learn differently. These strategies can be modified or enhanced for students with learning challenges such as dyslexia and related deficits. They are also appropriate for all students. Our multisensory strategies originate in the Orton-Gillingham tradition but fall in line with current research and best practices in math from the What Works Clearinghouse, the recommendations of the NCTM and neuroscience. In this course there is a heavy emphasis on instructional language and the use of multiple representations.
